Bulletin du Musée Hongrois des Beaux-Arts 127–128

The latest edition of the Museum of Fine Arts’ journal, Bulletin du Musée Hongrois des Beaux-Arts (2021–2022, issues 127–128) has arrived. The volume offers a rich collection of scholarly articles covering Egyptian, Greek, Italian, German, French, Dutch and Hungarian art spanning from antiquity to twentieth century, and including some intriguing new findings. It inculdes papers addressing a wide range of art historical and restoration subjects. The cover feature (first part of an in-depth study) investigates a series of emblematic miniatures by Friedrich Brentel from the museum’s collection. It provides a comprehensive identification of visual prototypes and presents a thorough analysis of the emblems. The issue concludes with an interview with Cézanne scholar Richard Shiff who shares his reflections on the French master and discusses the museum’s 2021 exhibition dedicated to the painter.
