The over life – sized statue represents an enthroned man, who wears a long dress (chiton) and a mantle with ornate seams. It stood along the sacred way which led from Miletus to the sanctuary of Apollon at Didyma, and accommodated festive processions. Several similar statues were found here, serving as votive gifts offered by members of the illustrious families in the neighbourhood. According to the Greek inscription on the right foot of the throne, the statue was offered to Apollon by Chares, the leader (archos) of the city Teichioussa, southeast of Miletus. The upper part of the cast is damaged.
