The rectangular relief shows one of the famous labours of Heracles: he had to capture the hind of the goddess Artemis. We see the hero at the height of the struggle. The nude figure, with short hair and swelling muscles, grabs the head of the hind with his left hand, while clutching the antlers of the animal with his right hand. He kneels upon the back of the hind, thrusting the animal to the ground and making it unable to move. The relief is an example of how the style of the Classical period of Greek art (see Room IV) was transformed in the first century BC.
