Although Simone Bianco was of Tuscan origin, he was active primarily in Venice and known solely for his marble portrait busts. He created these portraits under the influence of antique artworks and followed the path of the Greek predecessors by carving his name on marble in Greek. Therefore, for a long time,
these sculptures were considered to be antique. The works of Simone Bianco were highly appreciated by the Venetian humanist milieu. Beyond his marble busts, several bronze portraits in similar style are attributed to him including the Head of a Man in Budapest, which has a version preserved in the Kunshistorisches
Museum, Vienna.
