The torso — similarly to the piece next to it — is also a copy of the Kritios kouros. It was found in 1865/1866 on the Acropolis, then complemented with the head of another statue in 1880. This was later taken off, when the head of the Kritios kouros was found in 1888. Therefore, the plaster torso displayed here was probably created between 1865/1866 and 1880. In the 1870s the Hungarian National Museum received copies of statues that were found in the most recent excavations in Greece. These newly discovered pieces, little accessible elsewhere at the time, made the cast collection — later transferred to the Museum of Fine Arts — even more significant.
