The large stele shows two female figures; one is standing, the other is seated. Their names are engraved on the architectural frame of the original relief (here omitted): Demetria and Pamphile, they were probably sisters. Both of them wear a chiton and a himation pulled over their heads, the edges of the mantles are lifted from their shoulders in a gesture characteristic of married women. Their gaze does not meet, and their hands are not clasped either, suggesting that both had already passed away. Demetria and Pamphile were represented on an earlier stele as well. On that monument, they are holding hands as a sign of connection between the living and the dead, which means that one of them was still alive.
