Béla Tamás Kónya

 

Chief Operating Officer, National Museum Conservation and Storage Centre (OMRRK) at the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest

Béla Tamás Kónya is currently the Chief Operating Officer and the Head of the Conservation Department of the National Museum Conservation and Storage Center (OMRRK) at the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest. He holds a PhD in Media Art Preservation (theory and practice) and an absolutorium from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts Doctoral School.

Between 2008 and 2020, he played a key role in the development and implementation of the collection care strategy of the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art, Budapest, with a focus on contemporary art. His main responsibilities included managing the Collection Care and Conservation Department, the conservation of contemporary art objects, and the management of exhibitions.

Furthermore, his role involved the promotion of contemporary art, including media art, that belongs to our cultural heritage. He also ensured that cultural diversity would be promoted as a fundamental value, and he overseed the design and development of projects which involved close cooperation with national and international partners. In addition to these activities, he administered the development and implementation of a long-term collection care strategy, while involving in the development of future initiatives of collection care and science conservation methodologies
