The statue of a youth, which was created at the very end of the Archaic period is one of the latest representatives of kouros figures. The arms were not held close to the body, but the weight is still supported equally by both legs. The long hair of the nude youth, represented with emphatic muscles, is tied at the back with a narrow ribbon; the forehead is framed by two rows of curly locks. Based on the holes drilled in the hair, the head was once decorated with a bronze wreath or a ribbon. In the nineteenth century the statue was preserved in an English private collection, and regarded as the representation of Apollon, hence its modern name, the Strangford Apollon.
