This wooden sculpture from the early 18th century formed part of a Calvary group. The small-scale piece, while still preserving the original painting, is meticulously executed with the sculptor having devoted special attention even to the smallest details of the face. The vigorous colouring of the figure, its richly gilded surfaces, expression of pathos and glass eyes as well as the decorative band on the border of the garment are characteristic features of Spanish sculpture. At the same time, the artistic manner, especially manifest in the character of the face and the proportions of the figure, is akin to colonial art.
